a Moment to think

A moment to think

On the 4th anniversary of the great East Japan earthquake, I gave a moment of silence at 14:46. I noticed that nobody around me didn't seem to care what I was doing and continued drinking, eating, talking.

So many donated money, spent time as volunteers and purchased products from supposedly radio-contaminated regions to help the people there. And those actions seems to be unstoppable. There have been, are and will be enormous amount of effort and support for the people and to the area so that they get better as soon as possible. I have full respect towards these people who are making the difference and progress.

Meanwhile, there is a report from Asahi Shinbun saying that almost 70% of the people living there feel they are forgotten even though the recovery is far from being completed. As mentioned, total strangers around me seemed not to care. But a friend of mine told me that in his office there was an announcement mentioning the tragedy and took a moment of silence.

There are differences among people how much they care or could care.
Each and every person has their own life to take care. There are people including myself who simply are incapable of contributing time and/or money to the recovery or avoid thinking of it. I thought, though, undertaking the recovery action supposed to be done by so called, "All Japan."

People live for now and future so much so that they connect to the past which they lived only occasionally.

As a classical music musician dealing most of the time with the works from the past. I am used to think and research the history. However, the result of our thoughts and research must be connected to the present, people living now. And hopefully that is passed on to the next generation. This is, I believe, a part of ability of any traditional art, connecting the past and the present, making people aware of the things happened in the past and giving opportunities to remember and/or think that there are damages in nature, creature, and above all in human being. As a result after a concert, one could become a different person.
